Le terme « théosophisme » désigne la doctrine de la Société Théosophique, fondée par Mme Blavatsky, distincte de la « théosophie » traditionnelle d’inspiration chrétienne. La Société Théosophique, malgré ses prétentions ésotériques et son pseudo christianisme, est antichrétienne et d’origine accidentelle, sans lien avec les traditions orientales ou occidentales authentiques. L’étude de ses théories, souvent contradictoires, nécessite une analyse historique de la Société.

Mme Blavatsky prétendit avoir voyagé au Tibet et étudié l’occultisme avec les « Mahâtmâs », mais ce voyage est considéré comme une invention. Elle aurait ensuite étudié les mystères égyptiens, mais cela est également contesté. Plus tard, elle s’allia avec l’Arya Samâj, une association réformiste hindoue, et prétendit avoir reçu un grade maçonnique, ce qui est jugé inexact.

Ms. Blavatsky claimed to have traveled to Tibet and studied occultism with the “Mahatmas,” but this journey is considered an invention.
